Melt-Proof Summer Makeup

When the mercury goes up during those hot summer days, does your makeup fade, melt, smudge, bleed or run? No need to panic, the secret to perfect summer makeup is choosing the right textures and finishes. Don’t worry; you can still be on trend and far from boring!

Sun Care

It goes without saying that every beauty routine begins with proper preparation and this means a moisturizer that contains sun protection. Never go below SPF 15, anything lower does not provide enough protection. And because this is a 2 in 1 product (moisture + UV protection) there is no real need to layer on extra sunblock should you venture outside. However, if you are going to be outdoors for several hours, you should definitely apply extra sun protection.

Shine-Free Complexion

Does your T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) seem oily and shiny despite your best efforts? Consider using a silicone based mattifying product as a face primer. The silicone catches the light and keeps your skin from reflecting it so it controls shine. It also helps makeup stay longer. If you need to touch up a little shine during the day, always have some blotting tissue on hand, in your purse, your desk or locker to absorb oil and prevent shine. These tissues contain a fine coat of powder that blots away shine and keeps your skin looking fresh.

Simply Exquisite Looking Skin

As spring eases into summer, switch your foundation for a bronzing powder. Use a large fluffy brush and sweep over areas that are naturally kissed by the sun; high on the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, the top of the chin and forehead. Choose a powder with light-reflecting pigments, which are more flattering to your complexion. By reflecting light, the pigments in the powder smooth your complexion and keep it from looking dull and lifeless. If you really can’t go without foundation, use a lighter formula and only apply where needed. Let your skin breathe… it’s summer after all!

Eye Makeup: No Running…..

Start your makeup application with a little eyeliner or eye pencil; then apply eyeshadow. The texture of the eyeshadow powder will seal the liner and keep it from running (no more racoon eyes). If you think you’ll be spending lots of time outdoors and maybe even sweat a little, choose a waterproof formula. However, long term use of waterproof mascara is discouraged.

A Little Spritz

Not only does this product provide your skin with a clean splash of freshness, but it also helps makeup stay longer. Carry a small bottle of face spritzer in your handbag or gym bag; it will surely become a lifesaver during those inevitable heat waves….

It’s all about dosing… The trick is to keep it light and not use a heavy hand when applying summer makeup. Focus on your natural beauty assets and enjoy the summer – it always seems too short!
