  • FAQ: Mineral Makeup

Mineral-based cosmetics are very popular right now. Wondering what make them so special? Here are the answer to your questions!

1- What makes mineral makeup different from traditional makeup products?

Essentially, the ingredients used in the formulation of makeup products are what set mineral and traditional makeup apart. Mineral makeup is made from finely ground minerals. However, the proportion of minerals contained in the product may vary from brand to brand. Because its pigmentation comes from the minerals it contains, mineral makeup is free of colouring agents and is often formulated without preservatives or talc.

Mineral foundation’s main attribute is that it provides a more natural and polished finish.

Mineral makeup is available in powder form; its texture is often richer and smoother than traditional powders. The natural oils contained in the minerals used in the making of the product produces a softer texture that adds a touch of natural luminescence to your complexion.

2- How to determine the quality of a mineral makeup product?

The quality, quantity and fineness of the pigment the product contains are what determine its quality. And since these characteristics are difficult to evaluate for the normal everyday user, it’s best to assess the product’s quality with a light application.

Good quality mineral makeup will blend into the skin; it will feel as if it evaporated during application.

3- What’s the best application technique?

For best results, apply on freshly cleaned, hydrated and makeup-free skin.

Before you begin, make sure your skin has had enough time to properly absorb moisturizer.

The implement you choose to apply your makeup will greatly influence the quality of its application. If you don’t feel particularly skilled, a very large soft and full bristle brush is your best choice for applying multiple layers of makeup. This type of brush will also help you avoid obvious streaks. Ideally, your makeup brush should be clean and in good condition (bristles should be straight, not overly flared due to excessive or abusive use).

A smaller brush with close-spaced or tighter bristles will provide more concentrated coverage. However, this type of brush requires an expert hand to get an all over, even application.

As with all foundations, it’s best to begin application from the middle of your face and work outwards.

4- How to choose the perfect shade of foundation?

The foundation shade that is right for you should blend almost invisibly into your natural complexion when applied to your jaw line or to the tip of your nose.

For those of us whose skin tone varies from season to season, we should ideally have two shades of foundation. One should be a lighter shade for the winter months and a darker shade to even out a tanned skin during the warm summer months. To achieve the right foundation shade during those in-between months, blend a little of both to create the perfect shade for your complexion.

5- What’s the best way to get smooth, flawless skin?

Sadly, powder foundations tend to put the spotlight on skin imperfections, especially if skin is dry. Dry skin may cake or flake after applying powder makeup. So it’s essential that you first improve the condition and appearance of your skin before applying makeup.

Weekly exfoliation and proper moisturizing are fundamental to achieving beautiful skin and perfect makeup application.

6- How can I get a glowing complexion?

Mineral makeup is naturally more luminescent than traditional makeup due to the minerals used in its formulation. To achieve a glowing, radiant appearance, add a touch of shimmery shadow to the arch of your brow and to the top of your cheekbones. Top off your look with some super-shine gloss and voilà!

7- What are the rules in terms of colour coordination?

Playing with makeup is not like mixing and matching your outfits. Although matching your blush with your gloss is a good idea, it’s not a ‘must’. It’s best to choose colours that will enhance each feature. However, the final result should not appear disorganized. Start slowly by applying neutral shades and choose a more intense shade to focus attention on just one facial feature at a time.

8- Which colours will look best on me?

Lips with a slightly bluish tinge will look best with a peachy colour to downplay the blue pigmentation. Those with an olive complexion will look best in pink. Don’t be shy, ask your beauty consultant to help you find the shades that will suit you best!

  • Set your eyeliner with an eyeshadow

Just like you can set your foundation with a powder, set your eyeliner with an eyeshadow.

After applying your eyeliner, use an eyeshadow that's similar in colour to your eyeliner shade to set the eyeliner.  You can do this very easily by using a brush and gently going over it.  This will help your eyeliner stay in place and last longer.

  • Eyeliner Tip

I typically have a hard time making a thin line, if it's too thick after the application a cotton swab can gently remove the excess.

  • eyeliner tip for contest

All the eyeliners i have tryed always still smudge. I tend to workout alot everyday and with that comes sweat. My liner will smudge so it looks like i have raccoon eyes! my trick to pervent this:

Wipe your waterline or the place your applying the eyeliner on with a Q-tip. This will take away oils. Now apply the liner. now take a new Q-tip and dap it on your liner to take access water from your eyeliner. dont blink for about 10 seconds to allow it to dry. if this doesnt work well enough then you can buy an after primer to help hold it on.

    *hope this work

  • Eye Liner

I usually prefere to use eye liner pencil, doesnt have to be waterproof. Given that I like to wear eye liner everyday, I usually pick a colour that compliments my eye colour and mood. Since I have tan skin and brown eye colour, I can wear Black, Grey, Purple etc. ALways make sure you have a sharp tip for easy glide and precision. Start from the top corner of your eyelid and draw a line close to your lashline. I also love to use liquid eyeliner for a dramatic effect such as a cateye look. Make sure you use a Qtip to make the edges smooth if needed.
